In this current body of work I explore the themes of loss, change and inner transformation. I use a process of coiling and throwing techniques to join clay sections into larger vessel forms to create ceramic canvasses as a backdrop for visual narratives.

Layering underglazes and slip onto the ceramic pieces and using a sgraffito technique to reveal the underlying clay body, the act of building, joining and carving serves as an embodiment of processing and transforming personal losses into colorful and vibrant pieces.

For the sgraffito I create simple line drawings based on symbolism as an expression form, borrowing ideas from mythology as well as my own interpretations. Like in Ancient Greek vessel designs the images can be read as a visual story. The result is an invitation to the observer to extend their own imagination.
